Park Sketchbook & Comic Strip Workshop!

Looking for a fun, creative weekend activity for the kids? Sacramento Academy is hosting a completely free Outdoor Comic Book & Sketching Workshop at William B. Pond Recreation Area in Carmichael! Bring your young artists out for a relaxed afternoon of drawing, storytelling, and fresh air. We will be using the park's beautiful trees, trails, and wildlife as inspiration to help kids design their very own characters and build a custom 3-panel comic strip! No prior drawing experience is needed—this is all about having fun, unleashing the imagination, and trying something new. 🎨 What We’re Doing • Character Design: Fun, guided prompts to help kids create their own superheroes, park monsters, or animal sidekicks. • Comic Strip Creation: Setting up storyboards to help them put their characters into a quick, fun adventure. • Art Stations: We provide clipboards, pencils, markers, and blank comic templates for everyone! • Snacks & Drinks: Free snacks and juice boxes provided to keep the creative juices flowing. 🎒 What to Bring • Just a camp chair or blanket to sit on the grass (optional, as we will also use the park picnic tables). • Plenty of imagination! All ages and skill levels are welcome to come hang out, draw, and share their stories with other local families. We can't wait to see what your kids create!

The Junior Wildlife Documentary Crew

Sacramento Academy Junior Wildlife Filmmakers Workshop! Hey parents! Does your child love nature, animals, and telling stories? Sacramento Academy is hosting a completely free Junior Wildlife Documentary event at William B. Pond Recreation Area in Carmichael! We are turning the park into our filming set. Kids will become directors, cinematographers, and narrators as they use a smartphone to shoot their very own 60-second "wildlife documentary" featuring the park's real insects, birds, trees, and river views. At the end of the safari, every child will be officially sworn in and awarded a Sacramento Academy Junior Wildlife Videographer Certificate to take home! 🎥 How It Works 1. The Briefing: We gather at the picnic tables for a quick, fun 10-minute masterclass on how to frame a shot, track a "wild beast" (like a beetle or a duck), and talk in a dramatic whisper like a real nature host. 2. The Shoot: Kids and parents head out together with a "Filmmaking Checklist" to capture 3 unique clips (e.g., one moving insect, one unique plant, and an epic landscape shot). 3. The Premiere & Awards: We gather back at base camp. Kids can voluntarily show a 10-second clip of their favorite find to the group, followed by our official Certificate Ceremony! 🎒 What to Bring • A smartphone or tablet with a working camera (parents will accompany their kids during filming). • Walking shoes and plenty of enthusiasm! • We provide the checklists, clipboards, pens, and custom printed certificates. Come out for an afternoon of cinematic exploration, fresh air, and creative storytelling. Space is limited by our certificate printing count, so be sure to RSVP early!
